• Music education has been scientifically linked to improved academic outcomes and lowering dropout rates, particularly for at-risk students.
• Music education has been shown to improve students’ abilities to critique themselves, reflect, learn from mistakes, manage behavior, make decisions, maintain a positive self-concept, maintain school engagement, have tolerance for others’ perspectives, and orient themselves toward academic goals, including college attendance and college graduation.
• School band students have the lowest levels of current and lifelong use of alcohol, tobacco and illicit drugs among any group in our society.

DISD Band Students pay only $25 of the $200 Band Camp fee.  The rest comes from donors like YOU!  Your gift helps cover costs such as:

• Conductor and studio instructor stipends
• Music rental and copying costs
• Instrument repair
• Meyerson Symphony Center rental
